I spent 4 years writing the book

I spent four years writing the book The way of the mushroom: A return to balance. It was my personal journey – sometimes joyful, other times challenging. I wanted to put everything I have learned over more than twenty-five years of practice in Chinese medicine and mycotherapy into it. I wrote every page with the awareness that mushrooms are not just about health. They are about life. About balance, about respect for nature, and about understanding that everything within us is connected to everything else.

This book is not a technical manual. It is a guide for anyone who wants to better understand themselves, their body, and their rhythm. And also an invitation – to return to the balance that we often lose in the daily rush.

What is the book about?

In this book, I will guide you through the basics of Traditional Chinese Medicine – from Tao and Qi to Yin and Yang, and on to the Five Elements and the Three Treasures. I show how these ancient principles relate to how we feel, how we eat, how we sleep, and how we think. Or whether we are healthy or not.

In the second part, we dive into the world of medicinal mushrooms – Reishi, Cordyceps, Hericium, Chaga, and others. I write about them not only as a therapist but also as a person who lives with them every day. I am fascinated by how mushrooms can balance extremes – exactly as nature itself does.

The conclusion of the book is practical: I offer advice on how to choose mushrooms, how to use them, and how to apply everything we know about them to everyday life.

What will you find in the book?

The book has five main parts, which form an imaginary journey from knowledge to practice:

  1. On Chinese Medicine – Tao, Qi, Yin and Yang, the five elements and the three treasures of life.
  2. When We Stray from the Middle Path – why illness arises and how imbalance manifests in the body.
  3. Treatment with Mushrooms – the fascinating world of medicinal mushrooms through the eyes of a therapist and modern science.
  4. Practical Part – how mushrooms are grown, processed and used correctly.
  5. Lifestyle According to Chinese Medicine – about how food, sleep, exercise, emotions and relationships affect our health.

Each chapter is written so that it can be understood not only by a therapist, but also by a reader who is encountering this world for the first time.

Do you want to understand traditional Chinese medicine better,
and the medicinal mushrooms that help the body find balance?

Milan Schirl's book is readable, understandable and full of interesting information,
which helps to understand how mushrooms and the human organism work.

You will also learn that mushrooms are a supplement. Each one of us has to do the hardest work ourselves.

Why did I write it?

Every day I see how the body can heal itself – when we give it the space to do so. I wanted to write a book that would help people find that space again. And at the same time, I wanted to pay tribute to mushrooms – those silent teachers from nature who teach us humility, perseverance and patience.

“The path of the mushroom is a return to oneself. When we understand nature, we begin to understand ourselves as well.”

Reviews

I bought Milan Schirl's book as a Christmas present for myself, but I couldn't resist and started reading it – and I have literally been falling asleep with it for three days now. The book is beautiful, clear, and full of meaningfully presented information with a clear logical flow. The illustrations are also exceptional, which is not common in professional literature and adds extraordinary value to the book.
I highly appreciate not only the author's expertise in the field of traditional Chinese medicine, but also his educational work and his ability to convey TCM as a path to an overall lifestyle

The book completely amazed me. Although I expected a high standard, its production literally took my breath away. It is the most beautiful book I have ever held in my hands – exceptionally clear, full of valuable information and complemented by exceptional illustrations. I perceive it as a publication with a significantly higher value than is common for professional literature.

The book immediately impressed me with its clarity and professional depth. I originally intended to just leaf through it, but I couldn't tear myself away from the pages. It is full of practical advice and clearly presented information. I am already looking forward to returning to it in peace this evening and starting to read it from the beginning. I greatly appreciate the author's work and I am happy to recommend this book for every household where vital mushrooms are used

Mine arrived today too! Beautiful, nicely and systematically organised, written in a lively style and with gorgeous graphics! Wow......

Libor Dvorský

The book is beautifully crafted, with divine illustrations and cover. I must admit that it is the most beautiful and best-crafted book I have ever bought. I have fallen in love with it.

I picked up the book yesterday. And it is beautiful, everything is well described and explained. My first impression of this book? Anticipation. That calm kind, for a Friday evening (and not just Friday);-) in an armchair… I have only leafed through the book so far – and honestly, I couldn't read it "properly" from the beginning at all. I kept stopping somewhere. Something caught my attention, something touched me, something corresponded exactly to what I am currently dealing with or interested in…

I am just repeating myself. An absolutely amazing book, precisely crafted. The illustrations are fairytale-like. I have a JEWEL in my library. My husband spent five months in the ICU in Hradec Králové.... I had 'flirted' with mushrooms before, but after receiving this expertise (which is priceless), I am thrilled that I am on the right path ....THE MUSHROOM path....:-)). My husband feels excellent ....What more could one wish for ?!?
