Taste:

  • bitter (pungent, sweet)

Tropism:

  • lungs (kidneys, spleen, heart, small intestine)

Direction of action:

  • sinking

Effects:

  • clears heat

  • removes toxin
  • benefits the throat
  • removes Tan

Dosage:

  • 3 – 10 g, standard 6 g

Contraindications:

  • loose stools due to spleen deficiency, pregnancy, long-term use may cause qi deficiency and diarrhoea
