  • sweet (bland, salty, dense)

Tropism:

  • kidneys, liver and lungs (urinary bladder, small intestine, spleen)

Direction of action:

  • sinking

Effects:

  • regulates urination

  • drains water from the intestines
  • clears Re from Gan (eyes) and from Fe (Tan)

Dosage:

  • 3 – 15 g, standardly 6 g

Contraindications:

  • sinking of yang qi, nocturnal emission due to kidney deficiency, absence of damp-heat symptoms
