  • slightly warm (balanced, warm, weak, pure yang, yang in yin, non-toxic)

Taste:

  • sweet (light)

Tropism:

  • spleen and lungs (heart, triple burner, large intestine)

Direction of action:

  • ascending

Effects:

  • tonifies Qi
  • raises Yang (Chao)
  • consolidates the exterior
  • heals oedema and non-healing ulcers
  • promotes circulation (Sheng)

Dosage:

  • 10 – 15 g, standard 10 g

Contraindications:

  • not suitable for exterior excess syndromes, Qi stagnation, dampness and food stagnation, liver Qi constraint with irritability, or hot toxins at the onset of ulcers or after they have ruptured
