Chinese Cinnamon - tree bark

Source:

Cinnamomi Cortex - bark

Nature:

  • hot (strongly hot, slightly toxic, non-toxic, lifting, yang within yang, sinking, yin within yang)

Taste:

  • pungent, sweet (bitter)

Tropism:

  • kidney, spleen, heart and liver

Direction of action:

  • inwards

Effects:

  • tonifies the fire of the Ming Men

  • warms the spleen
  • disperses cold
  • warms and supports the production of Qi and Xue

Dosage:

  • 1 – 3 g, standardly 1 g

Contraindications:

  • do not use in cases of fire from yin deficiency, nor in cases of excess heat
