Nature:

  • cool (slightly cool, balanced, sinking)

Taste:

  • bitter, sweet

Tropism:

  • liver and stomach (spleen)

Direction of action:

  • inwards

Effects:

  • clears heat

  • removes toxins
  • drains damp-heat through urination

Dosage:

  • 9 – 30 g, standardly 10 g

Contraindications:

  • absence of excess heat, yin ulcers, may cause mild diarrhoea
