Nature:

  • slightly warm (slightly cool, balanced, warm, weak, strong, lifting, pure yang, slight yin in yang)

Taste:

  • sweet, slightly bitter (bitter, light, dense)

Tropism:

  • spleen and lungs (stomach, heart, liver, kidneys)

Direction of action:

  • ascending

Effects:

  • replenishes Yuan Qi

  • strengthens Pi and Fei
  • generates fluids (Sheng Shai) An Shen

Dosage:

  • 1 – 10 g, standardly 3 g

Contraindications:

  • overdose may cause allergic reactions in the form of eczema, itching, headaches, dizziness, or even fever and bleeding
