Its original homeland is India, from where it spread via the Balkans to Europe sometime in the 13th century. In ancient times, it was not used much because people did not know how to prepare it. It is rich in mineral salts, phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, calcium and manganese, and contains provitamin A and B-complex vitamins.

It supports liver function and helps with the detoxification of the organism; fresh juice has antibiotic effects.

It has a sweet taste and a cooling nature. It affects the middle burner and is suitable for all types of inflammation because it cools the blood. Use with caution in cases of swelling and water retention.
