The broad bean is one of the oldest traditional Czech legumes; it is known for its interesting amount of amino acids, which, however, do not constitute complete proteins. In terms of minerals, it contains potassium and phosphorus. Together with the adzuki bean and the hyacinth bean, it is recommended as an effective diuretic, as it drains excess fluid from body tissues.
The Chinese supplement these three legumes with Job's tears and collectively call it the "Drink of the Four Divinities". This combination is used to treat dropsy, or potentially obesity.
The broad bean has a salty taste, a neutral nature, and supports the function of the kidneys and the urinary bladder.
