It originates from the eastern Mediterranean, India, and was also cultivated in ancient Egypt and China. They lower cholesterol levels, and when crushed, they contain a high amount of fibre and magnesium; they contain lignan substances that protect against breast cancer. They are excellent for constipation problems, support the vascular system, and strengthen the liver and kidneys. They moisten mucous membranes and have a cooling effect. Topically, linseed oil is used for fungal infections, pimples, and vaginal warts. They have a sweet taste and a cooling nature.
