It grows in the subtropics and was already cultivated in ancient times in Greece, Central Asia, Persia, China and North Africa.

It supports the function of the lungs, large intestine and spleen. It dissolves phlegm, moisturises the mucous membranes of the lungs and intestines and supports digestion, especially in cases of acid reflux, and is suitable for loss of appetite (almond milk). It has a sweet taste and a neutral to warm nature.
