It originates from China and has been produced since around the 2nd century BC; sometime in the 7th century, it spread to Japan and then to Vietnam, Korea, and Thailand. In our country, it became known in the mid-20th century. It is essentially a plant-based curd or cheese made from a soy bean drink. It has a high content of protein, fibre, B-group vitamins, calcium, iron, and magnesium. It is of a cooling nature and sweet taste. It harmonises the organism, moisturises and clears heat, cleanses the blood, lowers blood pressure, and strengthens the body – replenishing blood and body fluids.
