Use of the formula according to Traditional Chinese Medicine:

  • clears damp heat in the gallbladder
  • breaks down accumulations – gallstones
  • unblocks the liver and bile ducts

Description:

After obtaining his professorship in Phytotherapy in China, the Chinese professor Dr Li Jie has been running a successful practice in the Netherlands for many years and enjoys great popularity among both his patients and students. He has also been teaching in the Czech Republic for many years. The modification of the modern formula for breaking down gallstones – Si Jin Tang – comes from him.

It contains herbs that clear damp heat and the Shao Yang section, to which the gallbladder meridian belongs, herbs that move, attack accumulations from below and drain them through stool, and those that unblock the liver, whose main task is to maintain the smooth flow of everything. In addition, the formula also contains herbs that regenerate the liver and bile ducts, such as both peonies, white and red, and Ginseng.

The formula works by releasing accumulations of damp heat in the gallbladder, which manifests as stones and gravel, and related problems such as pain, pressure or stabbing in the hypochondrium with feelings of "indigestion". By doing so, it dissolves stones into gravel and, by supporting peristalsis in the area of the bile ducts and the gallbladder itself, allows them to pass freely in the stool. That is why it is said that after taking this formula, a bowel movement should occur, followed by a "good feeling and relief".

Indications:

  • gallstones (up to 1 cm)
  • pain, pressure or stabbing in the hypochondrium
  • spasms in the hypochondrium
  • gallstones as an incidental finding on abdominal ultrasound

Modern use:

  • cholelithiasis – gallstones (up to 1 cm)
  • cholecystitis – inflammation of the gallbladder

Tongue:

  • variable
  • can be red with a thicker white-yellow coating
  • depending on the presence of dampness and heat

Pulse:

  • often xian

Contraindications:

  • larger stones that could get stuck in the bile ducts and potentially cause acute pancreatitis

Notes:

In case of an acute gallbladder attack and recurring problems, be sure to seek medical help.
