Use of the formula according to Traditional Chinese Medicine:

  • clears damp-heat arising in the body after alcohol consumption, especially after alcohol "intoxication"
  • harmonises the centre – the spleen and stomach
  • strengthens the spleen

Description:

Alcohol can make life more pleasant and help us relax, but as the saying goes – everything in moderation. If we overdo it, unpleasant symptoms known as a "hangover" appear, which can make the morning after a fun evening very unpleasant. According to Chinese medicine, alcohol in small amounts is a "medicine": it can clear the liver and thus relax it – for example, from unpleasant emotions and stress. On the other hand, it is a "poison". An alcoholic beverage always contains a certain proportion of dampness and heat. Dampness dominates in beer, while heat dominates in spirits. In the body, they usually transform into a pathology called damp-heat. This acts like "glue" that settles in the area of the middle burner and in the so-called yangming channels (stomach, large intestine). We feel pressure and distension in the epigastrium, the stomach energy moves in the opposite direction and rises... As the damp-heat rises, we get headaches and dizziness. We have no appetite. The spleen, weakened by dampness, cannot transform it, and the dampness/damp-heat descends, which manifests as diarrhoea, and because the spleen is not performing its function of creating Qi, we are tired.

Ge Hua Jie Cheng Tang was formulated precisely for these states. It is a classic formula from the 17th century, where the emperor herb is Ge Hua – Kudzu flower, because it facilitates the breakdown of alcohol and improves the unpleasant side effects of alcohol intoxication, in which medicinal yeast also helps. Other herbs (cardamom and amomum) strengthen the spleen and dry dampness, both tangerines and costus root regulate the Qi mechanism in the middle burner area and allow the stomach Qi to descend again, Ginseng and atractylodes strengthen the spleen and replenish Qi, water plantain and Umbrella Polypore drain dampness through urination. We have added two "yellows" to our formula – Coptis and Scutellaria, for even better management of damp-heat symptoms, and also Szechuan lovage for relieving unpleasant headaches. Of course, there is no absolutely effective formula for alcohol intoxication in the world (even though we know well how to prevent it...), but our formula is verified by centuries, safe and adapted to today's modern person.
