Use of the formula according to Traditional Chinese Medicine:

  • clears heat
  • drains fire and fire toxin
  • expels wind
  • relaxes and clears the intestines
  • benefits the eyes

Description:

A modern formula created in the 20th century, used in various modifications to remove accumulations of heat and fire toxin from all three burners, primarily the upper one. These can manifest as fever, distending headaches and/or sore throat, e.g., in cases of tonsillitis and other acute inflammations. It is also used to treat inflamed red eyes, styes (contains chrysanthemum and vitex), and inflammations in the ear or paranasal sinus areas, where the combination of Dahurian angelica, vitex, and catnip works excellently. The formula is also great for managing infections in wounds and ulcers manifesting as redness and pain, or possibly pus formation – thanks to the presence of skullcap, coptis, gardenia, and rhubarb, the mixture has naturally antibacterial effects and can treat all important sources of heat and fire toxin – it manages inflammations in all locations, best in the upper part of the body.

It also addresses conditions where heat accumulates in the section called Yang Ming (contains gypsum – the most effective herb for clearing it), which includes the stomach and large intestine meridians. Therefore, it is also very effective in resolving symptoms such as mouth ulcers, inflamed and swollen gums, nosebleeds, gastritis, and heat in the large intestine manifesting as constipation.

The mixture is also used to treat hidden latent heat – a hidden pathogen, primarily in the Yang Ming section. This can manifest as the occurrence of any of the listed symptoms in full force during an "acute flare-up" and randomly, often with a feeling of fatigue and exhaustion in the interim.
