Cold in the uterus and the lower burner manifests as discomfort, pressure, or even pain in the lower abdomen, which is primarily linked to menstruation. It often starts a few days before the period begins and is usually most intense on the first or second day. Menstruation may be light or, conversely, very heavy, or it may stop completely for a day. However, menstrual blood is always dark, especially at the beginning, and contains clots. When the clots pass, relief often follows. Heat, such as a warm shower, also helps.
Why is menstruation so painful? Cold concentrates and stops everything. It also slows down the flow of Qi and blood in the meridians and vessels. Therefore, the uterine tissue is not sufficiently nourished, and a woman may, for example, be unable to conceive. Blood stagnates and creates blockages, which can later manifest as fibroids or adhesions. And both stagnation and blockages are always accompanied by some form of pain or tension. The solution is to invigorate the blood, transform the blockages, warm the lower abdomen, and stop the pain.
The formula is intended to disperse excess cold in the lower abdomen, primarily the uterus, and to treat the blood blockages that arise from it. It is not intended for tonification – supplementing and warming Kidney Yang. Severe menstrual pain, where heat and the passing of clots at the beginning of menstruation bring relief, is a relatively reliable diagnostic criterion.
