Use of the formula according to Traditional Chinese Medicine:

  • tonifies blood
  • invigorates blood and moves blood stasis
  • stops bleeding and spotting
  • regulates menstruation

Description:

Tao Hong Si Wu Tang is one of the most effective formulas for regulating menstruation, especially in cases where blood stasis occurs alongside blood deficiency. This can manifest in an extremely wide range of symptoms, from irregular menstruation, imbalances in its intensity and duration, clots in menstrual blood, spotting, or pain.

Our modification of this famous formula, whose roots date back to the 13th century, can be used in all the aforementioned cases; however, it is most effective in conditions known as Beng Lou – where Beng means that menstruation begins with heavier bleeding, often painful or before the due date, and Lou refers to the fact that menstruation continues with spotting even after its “proper” time. The start of the period is often uncertain, menstruation starts (sometimes again with a heavy flow), and then stops, or spotting occurs for a longer time after menstruation. After a heavy start, the blood is usually dark, clots may form from the beginning, and there is often pain before and at the beginning of menstruation, or abdominal distension (bloating). Stagnation of Qi and blood stasis can create heat, which further intensifies menstruation, especially its beginning.

Therefore, in addition to the basic six herbs that tonify and move blood, our variant of the formula also contains herbs that move Qi stagnation (further alleviating pain), stop bleeding and spotting, and also clear heat from stagnation. This leads to the harmonisation of menstruation, which ceases to be painful, is not as heavy at the beginning, does not stop, and ends on time. Spotting also ceases.

At least three menstrual cycles are required to regulate such a serious condition; subsequently, we influence the causes (most often concerning internal organs or vital substances) to ensure a smooth menstrual cycle without significant unpleasant fluctuations.

Indications:

  • menstrual irregularities
  • Beng Lou (heavy start, stopping and starting, and spotting after menstruation)
  • painful menstruation (before and at the beginning)
  • blood clots and dark blood
  • abdominal distension (bloating)

Modern use:

  • menstrual regulation
  • infertility treatment
  • atrophy due to blood stasis

Tongue:

  • purplish-red
  • according to the presence of heat

Pulse:

  • xian
  • possibly shu (fine, weak, possibly wiry, possibly rapid)

Contraindications:

  • in case of greater blood stasis, it is necessary to use a different formula according to the underlying condition

Notes:
