An indispensable blend that is now part of virtually all formulas that strengthen our immunity – Wei Qi, the defensive layer. Its author is the brilliant Zhu Dan-Xi (1481 AD) and Yu Ping Feng San – Jade Windscreen Powder, is one of his pearls.
Weakness and insufficiency of defensive energy manifest as spontaneous or light sweating, mild colds and/or frequent illness, allergies, and an atopic terrain, where it plays an irreplaceable role in prevention and preparation for the season. Other symptoms include sensitivity to cold and wind, fatigue, weak voice, pallor, poor appetite, or various digestive problems. It is also used in paediatric practice, especially for frequent colds, allergies, particularly seasonal ones, and chronic rhinitis with clear or white mucus, and mild bronchitis. In adults, it improves the state of the immune system after long hospitalisations, in chronic diseases, after childbirth, but also in tuberculosis, liver diseases of the hepatitis or cirrhosis type, or possibly AIDS.
The simple blend is formed in its basic form by three herbs, where Atractylodes builds and strengthens the nutritive layer, Astragalus the defensive layer, and Ledebouriella disperses Qi "along the surface" – the skin and mucous membranes of the respiratory and digestive tracts, where the organism comes into direct contact with the external environment (through breathing and food). This is essentially about strengthening the spleen and lungs. In our variant, we have added two herbs to support the third organ that forms the axis of our immunity – the kidneys. Privet supports their yin and cinnamon their yang energy.
The blend therefore perfectly regulates the immune system, helps to stimulate it if it is weakened, and suppresses it if it reacts disproportionately to certain allergens – for example, during pollen season or in the case of food allergies.
For preventive use before the pollen season, it is advisable to take the blend 2-3 months before it begins. It is possible to combine it with the Liu Jun Zi Tang blend for phlegm and a weakened spleen or one of the variations of Liu Wei Di Huang Wan to strengthen the kidneys.
